Lotte’s Journey
By Candida Cave
Directed By Ninon Jerome

A Production by the New End Theatre in conjunction with The Holocaust Centre.

Lotte's Journey is based on the life of the German Jewish artist Charlotte Salomon who died at the tragically young age of 26. While she was in hiding in the South of France, Charlotte painted an autobiography of more than 1300 gouaches. In these vibrant, delicate, incisive paintings we are introduced to the destructive patterns of her family, the love of her life, her hopes and her fears. These are set against the tumultuous events of the time. The play is set on the train that took her to Auschwitz, her final days paralleled with flashbacks of her life: the darkness of the journey set against the myriad colours of her life.

Candida Cave has written several plays, which have been staged in London and toured Italy.

Ninon Jerome is a writer and Associate Director at the New End Theatre. She recently directed Richard Dreyfuss in a rehearsed reading of Freud.
