6th Form Conference at Beth Shalom

6th Form Conferences

Throughout the year, the Holocaust Centre runs a number of conferences specifically designed for Sixth-Form students who are considering issues of the Holocaust in more advanced contexts. Participants not only have the opportunity to visit the Centre’s museum, but also to hear leaders in the field of Holocaust studies and discuss issues arising from the day's theme.

History

  • Students engage in recent historiographical debates.
  • Conferences focus on recent publications, new sources of knowledge or historical controversies.

Theology

  • Students examine the theological implications of the Holocaust for Jewish faith, belief and practice.
  • Conferences also focus on the issues faced by Christian theologians.

Moral Philosophy

  • Students explore the philosophical implications of the Holocaust
  • Topics include:
  • the nature of good and evil
  • issues of personal and social responsibility
  • the complexity of failing societies
  • ethics and moral values

“What happened to being individual and following one’s own morals? How did the world let this happen? How does the world allow genocide to happen still? Do we not learn?”

Katie, Toot Hill Comprehensive
