Through its education work on the Holocaust, the Centre challenges students to think about Active Citizenship issues. They are encouraged to consider their responsibility to their community – local, national and international. Emphasis is placed on understanding:
“If I ever hear a racist comment, I will tell them what little remarks can lead to.” Nisha, age 14 “…Issues of racism, prejudice and the abuse of power do need to be explored with young people and adults. A centre such as Beth Shalom allows these issues to be explored as part of the study of human society…” Balbir Sohal, Regional Adviser for Citizenship Active LearningThe Centre’s approach to Holocaust education encourages active learning, critical thinking and creative problem-solving. A growing number of schools are choosing the Holocaust Centre as their charity and raising funds for genocide prevention work and to combat discrimination and racism. Some pupils have gone on to form university student groups to raise awareness on campus.
