In-Service Training for Educators

The Holocaust Centre runs a series of development seminars for professionals from a variety of disciplines. Delegates come from:

  • schools
  • universities and colleges
  • health services
  • police forces
  • prisons

Aims

The first principle behind the training is that the Holocaust should demand something of us all as individuals. Through workshops and discussions, delegates consider the issues raised for them as professionals by the Holocaust. They are encouraged to rethink their professional attitudes, policies and roles. In many cases, adjustment to policy is implemented as a direct result of visiting the Centre.

In-Service Training Days

Whole school or university department staff can book a day with us to explore lessons from the Holocaust and genocide. These programmes are appropriate for the staff's Continuing Professional Development and meet Equality Training requirements. Above all, many participants find the experience enhances personal commitment to global and community issues.

“The training seminars… have opened up new perspectives for our officers on issues such as prejudice and hate crime.”

Steve Green, Chief Constable, Nottinghamshire Police

“This has enhanced and enriched my personal development.”

Scott Harrison, HMI

A typical programme includes:

  • an introductory talk supported by a short film
  • viewing the Centre’s Holocaust exhibition
  • visiting the memorial gardens
  • hearing first-hand the experiences of a Holocaust survivor
  • discussing a challenging topic of contemporary importance, sometimes presented by a contemporary genocide survivor
  • reflecting on issues arising from the visit
  • discussing the Centre’s educational approach
  • lunch and refreshments

We can tailor the day’s programme to your personal requirements.  Please consult our Education staff to discuss in more detail.  Email Chantelle Lee or call 01623 836 627
