About the Centre

Vacancies

We have a wonderful team of volunteers at The Holocaust Centre involved in many aspects of running the centre and its exhibitions. We give all necessary training and make a contribution towards out of pocket travel expenses. We hold a number of social events during the year for our volunteers and staff. We do need a regular commitment from our volunteers to ensure that the team runs smoothly and the role is rewarding.

Volunteer Front of House

Front of House volunteers are the face of The Holocaust Centre for our visitors they are central members of the team, without whom we would be unable to open to the public. Volunteers play a vital part in contributing to visitors’ safe enjoyment and understanding of the Centre and its exhibitions.

Front of House Volunteers should expect to be involved in a variety of tasks - from welcoming visitors at Front of House, giving information to visitors about the history of the centre and the exhibition contents, providing practical assistance and information to visitors when required, assisting disabled and visually impaired visitors where necessary providing personal Tours, dealing with visitor complaints, security issues and health and safety issues.

Volunteer Coffee Shop Assistance

We run a small but successful Coffee Shop offering Hot Drinks, Sandwiches, cakes and other cold snack.  Volunteers who help within the Coffee Shop can enjoy meeting our varied selection of visitors, serving food and helping with food preparation.

Volunteer Gardeners

Volunteer gardeners at The Holocaust centre should expect to be involved in a wide variety of garden tasks depending on the seasons and needs. These would range from working to set out paths and plots, organising composting, planting rose trees in our memorial rose gardens and tending to their needs, planting seeds, weeding, pruning, and explaining what we are doing to visitors. We should always attempt to make good use of any special skills or knowledge that you may have and shall work with you to try to ensure that any special objectives you have are met within the practical constraints of running a busy productive, safe, tidy and attractive garden.

Other volunteering opportunities

We are always interested to hear from people who would like to volunteer or gain work experience in other areas such as in the Education or Media office with clerical tasks such as mail-outs, publicity, reception work.

Volunteer School officers

We are looking for people who can help with our visiting school. This involves providing tours and supporting activities. Full training will be given, please contact Juliet New Facilities Manager about this or any role supporting The Holocaust Centre.  Juliet.new@aegistrust.org or Tel: 01623 836627
